Both the certificates serve different purpose. Also, a person requires a succession certificate and not a legal heirship certificate.
Legal heir certificate is provided by the district revenue officer to identify the legal heirs of a dead person. However, a succession certificate is provided by a civil court to the legal heirs of the deceased. If a person dies without making a Will, a succession certificate can be provided by the court to ascertain the debts and securities of the deceased.
