Does the witnesses to a will of the testator have to read the contents of the will in order to attest to it?

No, for Witnesses, just mere witnessing a testator signing the Will is enough. Two Witnesses are required at the time when a Testator Signs a Will. Last Will executed by the Testator takes effect. A Certified Will is called a Codicil. I hope, you got much more information than what you have asked for.
