Can ancestral property be given to specific family member in a Will ?

07-Aug-2023 (In Wills / Trusts Law)
We are Hindus. In my family, we are father, mother and two brothers. Grandfather built a house and died without a will, meaning my father and his brothers/sisters have equal share in the house (no disputes there). Can my father specify in his will who to give his share in grandfather's house to ? For example, can he give his entire share in grandfather's house to only me, or only to my mother ? Or do all children and widow mandatorily get a share of the ancestral property (grandfather's house) and this portion of the will is incorrect ?

This is my response to you:
1. Is this an ancestral or self acquired property?
2. If it's ancestrak then you have a share as it is;
3. Your father can nonetheless give his share to you;
4. Consult a local lawyer and take steps.
