Stamp duty and registration fee on under-construction property (RERA)

07-Dec-2023 (In Property Law)
I have booked an under-construction property in Mumbai, which is RERA registered. The builder is asking for stamp duty and registration amount both to register the agreement of sale. I know that registration is mandatory. Can the stamp duty be paid later at the time of completion of property? Or does it need to be paid along with registration fee payment?

This is my response to you:
1. Firstly the property is not ready-to-move then how can he ask for stamp duty;
2. He can only ask you for registration of agreement to sell, not sale deed;
3. All this will be paid in due course of time;
4. When it has to be paid, it will be at the same time;
5. Consult a local lawyer and take steps.

Check for the stamp duty on the construction agreements: This fee is separate and is payable at the time registration.
