How to know if the ancestral property belongs to the family

I want to sell some part of my land which have been gifted to my father by his father ie, my grandfather.How to know that the land belongs to my family
First of all you shall go to Circle officer or concern revenue department of your area and search there is the name of your father are muted or not at the govt land revenue records, and if you the name of your father are muted at the said land revenue record then you applied for mutation in your name by way of legal heirs of your late father, and after mutation of your name at govt land revenue record you will be able to sell or transfer the land to any other person.
