Can lessee give notice in lock-in period of a lease to lesser?

12-Dec-2023 (In Property Law)
Hi, I have a lease agreement, from 1st July 2019 on 30th June 2020 for a said residential apartment. I have 6-month locking which expires on 31st Dec 2019 starting from agreement period! Now, I have already served the 30-Day notice on 12th Dec 2019, stating to deduct rent from my deposit (for December month and 12 Days of Jan). But, my owner is conflicting this and saying that I have to pay entire January's rent (as lockin expires on 31st Dec and notice will take effect from 1st Jan till 31st Jan 2020 and telling me to pay it to him. He won't deduct from Deposit, but on Jan 31st give me the whole deposit amount initially given to him! (Please note I have given four months deposit and there are no other pending dues nor have I ever delayed any rent before. I am just telling to adjust the said period rent, as I have paid for a new house deposit) Is this fair? How should I convince him? What legal remedies can I seek?

if your agreement is clear on the point as to when your lock in period expires then you have to talk to your landlord for the same.
in case there is some discrepancy, then it is advisable to send him a legal notice stating your defences
