  • Central Government increases the driving licence and vehicle registration fee

    The fee for application of driving licence and vehicle registration has been increased by the central government.

    A notification regarding the fee hike has been published in the official gazette. The fee with regard to issuance of a license and its renewal has been doubled.

    The Central Motor Vehicles (Twenty-second Amendment) Rules, 2016, also hiked the Vehicle registration fee by 10 times.

    According to the new Rules, states may levy additional amounts to cover the cost of automation and technology utilised for conducting the testing or providing value added service. Item New Fee Issue of learner’s licence in Form 3 for each class of value added service.

    OUR TAKE

    This sudden increase in the license fee and vehicle registration will surely affect the common man. The central government has given no justification on this fee hike which is required as the people have the right to know as to why they are being charged more.
