DigiLockers to store your driving license and registration certificate

September 06, 2016

Doing away with the necessity of carrying driving license and registration certificate of the Vehicle, the transport and IT ministers has designed a digital locker system wherein these documents can be secured. Termed as & lsquo DigiLocker', the system will allow you to drive without having the need of carrying your driving license and registration certificate. These documents will be kept in the secured national digital locker system and the same can be verified by traffic police and other law enforcing agencies in case of need. The transport and IT ministries will launch this system on Wednesday. DigiLocker will help you consolidate all your important papers at one place. You just need to have an Aadhaar card linked to your cell number to open an account. It will help spot verification of DLs and RCs directly in the users' mobile phone from the national registry of vehicle and drivers' data. & quot The verifying official needs to have the mobile app to check the authenticity of the soft documents. The IT ministry will launch the app soon,& quot a transport ministry official said. At least two states - Telangana and Delhi - could be the leaders since traffic police in these states are issuing e-challans and there is better internet connectivity. Officials said in case any violation is detected, the enforcement personnel can feed the penalty points using the app.

OUR TAKE

A Great move to do away with paper work. Modi government is slowly and steadily digitalizing each and every area of governance. This will help also ensure smoothness in verification of DLs and RCs and more transparency in the same.
