Deep Sidhu Granted Bail in Red Fort Violence Case by Delhi Court
April 17, 2021A Delhi Court has granted bail to Deep Sidhu, the Punjabi Actor, accused in the infamous matter concerning the violence that took place at Red Fort on Republic Day, during the farmer’s protest/tractor rally.
The accused has been granted bail with the help of the lawyers he was represented by, including Advocate Jaspreet S. Rai. Sidhu had been arrested in February from Zirakpur, near Chandigarh, days after the Delhi Police announced a cash reward of Rs. 1 Lac for information about him for his arrest.
Chaotic scenes were witnessed in several parts of Delhi on January 26, during the farmer’s tractor rally. On the occasion of India’s 72nd Republic Day, a chunk of the farmers protesting against the new agri laws had entered into the City. The farmers also entered ITO and the Red Fort and hoisted flags on its domes and flagpoles at the ramparts. Deep Sidhu had been arrested after he was seen as a 'prominent player' behind the violence held at Red Fort.
The bail was granted to Deep Sidhu by the Additional Sessions Judge Neelofer Abida Parveen, on the condition of him, to the satisfaction of the Court, furnishing personal bond with 2 local sureties in the sum of Rupees Thirty Thousand each. He has also been asked to submit his passport and cooperate with investigating officers. He is also required to telephonically confirm his location with the Investigating Officer on the 1st and 15th of each calendar month. Sidhu is also required to appear without fail, on each and every date of hearing before the Court and shall not delay or defeat or interfere with the trial in any manner. The Court also directed that Sidhu shall not influence, threaten or intimidate witnesses or tamper with evidence in any manner whatsoever.
Sidhu’s lawyer argued in the Court that his mere presence did not make him a part of the unlawful assembly and that Sidhu was an honest citizen who was a part of a protest. As per the prosecution, Sidhu was the main conspirator behind the violence at Red Fort, however, it was argued by Sidhu’s side that he was not even present at the Red Fort when the violence took place and that his case was a “classic case” of trial by media. According to his lawyer, he was a peaceful protestor exercising his fundamental right. In the light of these points put forth before the Court by Deep Sidhu's lawyer, he was granted bail.
For a bail matter, it is imperative to hire a good criminal lawyer in order to be directed, represented and argued for, in the best possible manner. For your bail matter, you can get in touch with Advocate Jaspreet S. Rai.
