Covid-19 Restrictions in Different States in India

With the surge in Coronavirus cases showing no signs of it decreasing, several fresh restrictions have been imposed by different States in the country. These restrictions include night curfew, partial lockdowns, shutting of restaurants and bars for dining etc. Difference between the restrictions imposed in April 2021 and the ones from last year, is that different states have devised their own restrictions rather than a countrywide full lockdown. On Monday, 12th April 2021, nearly 1.69 Lakh Covid-19 cases and 904 deaths in the last 24 hours were reported. This number is a shocking highest ever single-day Covid spike in India. Restrictions imposed in different States in India have been stated below:

Covid Restrictions in Haryana

The number of active Covid-19 cases has doubled in Haryana in the last 11 days (from 10,300 on April 1 to 20,000 on April 11) Restrictions for Haryana have been stated below:

  1. Night curfew has been imposed from 9 pm till 5 am.

  2. Schools for classes 1-8 April will remain shut till April 30.

  3. Public events and weddings shall not have more than 500 individuals for outdoor events.

  4. For indoor public events and weddings, more than 200 individuals are not allowed.

Covid Restrictions in Delhi

Delhi has seen a steep rise in the number of contaminants zones . From 2,183, the number of such zones has gone up to 5,705, with South Delhi accounting for the maximum number of red zones. Although, a lockdown has been ruled out in Delhi as per Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority has imposed certain restrictions as stated below:

  1. Night curfew has been imposed from 10 pm till 5 am till April 30. Healthcare workers and government officials on emergency and essential duties are exempted. Those travelling interstate by private vehicles are also exempted, as are those individuals that are travelling from airports, railway stations etc.

  2. A complete ban on social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious and festival related gatherings, etc.

  3. For marriage related functions, only 50 attendees are allowed.

  4. For funerals, only 20 attendees are allowed.

  5. Up to 50% gatherings allowed in public transports, restaurants, bars, cinema halls, etc.

  6. Sports events are not allowed to have any spectators

Covid Restrictions in Rajasthan

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Night time curfew (8pm-6am) in 9 cities of Rajasthan w.e.f. Saturday till the end of April.

  2. 12 hour curfew imposed in Udaipur till 30th April.

  3. Schools closed for classes up to 9th grade.

Covid Restrictions in Gujarat

Gujarat has also seen a surge in Covid-19 cases. The Gujarat High Court proposed the imposition of a lockdown for 3-4 days in order to control the wide spreading virus. Though the State has not imposed a lockdown, the following restrictions have been put in place.

  1. Sabarmati Ashram has been closed (till further notice) for visitors after the unfortunate rise in Covid-19 positive cases.

  2. Night curfew has been imposed in 20 cities and towns from 8 pm till 6 am till the end of April.

  3. Only 100 individuals are permitted at weddings.

  4. Offline classes in all private and governmental colleges shut till April 30.

Covid Restrictions in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has been hit the hardest with Covid-19 in terms of rising positive cases and even deaths from it. Maharashtra has already completed its first weekend lockdown and may also be heading towards harsher restrictions in order to curb further spread of Coronavirus cases. A number of restrictions have been imposed:

  1. Daily night curfews from 8 pm to 7 am.

  2. Complete lockdowns on weekends beginning 8 pm on Fridays and continued till 7 am on Mondays.

  3. All beaches are closed on weekends till the end of April.

Covid Restrictions in Goa

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Examinations for classes 1-8 and 9-11 shall be held online.

  2. Public gatherings not allowed Section 144 has been imposed.

Covid Restrictions in Kerala

Fresh restrictions were announced by Kerala Govt. in order to curb the spread of Covid-19. A surge of new Covid-19 infections has been seen in the State as well with the positivity rate up to 12.53% as recorded on April 12, 2021. Special Magistrates will be deployed to enforce the restrictions. The restrictions have been stated below:

  1. Public meetings (including weddings) in open spaces cannot be attended by more than 200 individuals.

  2. Public meetings (including weddings) in closed spaces cannot be attended by more than 100 individuals.

  3. Duration of aforementioned meetings cannot exceed 2 hours in total.

  4. Restaurants and shops shall operate only till 9 pm and only 50% of seats can be occupied at a given time.

  5. Shopping festivals and discount melas in Malls are completely prohibited.

  6. Not more than 2 travellers are allowed in an autorickshaw.

Covid Restrictions in Tamil Nadu

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. E-Registration is mandatory in order to enter the State of Tamil Nadu.

  2. Chennai and Kaoyambedu market are banned from holding retail sales.

  3. Clubs and restaurants are allowed to hold only 50% of the occupancy.

Covid Restrictions in Odisha

Several restrictions have been imposed in the State. These are:

  1. Night curfew has been imposed in Odisha since April 5 in 10 districts.

  2. Negative RT-PCR test report or a final certificate of vaccination is mandatory in order to enter the state.

  3. Classes for 10th and 12th in all schools shall be suspended.

Covid Restrictions in Himachal Pradesh

Several restrictions have been imposed in the State. These are:

  1. All schools and colleges will remain closed till 21st April.

  2. Maximum 50 persons allowed for weddings held indoor, and only 200 for outdoor weddings.

Covid Restrictions in Bihar

Several restrictions have been imposed in the State. These are:

  1. Educational Institutions will remain shut till April 18.

  2. Retail establishments will only be open till 7 pm till the end of April.

  3. Religious places will remain closed for the general public.

Covid Restrictions in Punjab

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Night curfew has been imposed in the entire State from 9 pm to 5 am.

  2. Political gatherings have been banned.

  3. Schools and colleges shall remain shut.

Covid Restrictions in Madhya Pradesh

Several restrictions have been imposed in the State. These are:

  1. Bhopal Crisis Management Group has imposed Corona Curfew in Bhopal from April 13 - April 19 till 6 am.

  2. Lockdowns have been imposed in Barwani, Rajgad, Vidisha, Indore city, Rau Nagar, Mahu Nagar and city areas of Shajapur, Ujjainuntil 6 am on April 19.

  3. A ten day lockdown has been imposed Balaghat, Narsinghpur, Seoni and Jabalpur from April 12-22.

  4. Night curfews everyday from 10 pm to 6 am across all urban areas have been imposed.

  5. Weekend curfews from 6 pm on Fridays till 6 am on Mondays.

  6. A complete lockdown has been ordered in Chhindwara district across urban and rural areas.

Covid Restrictions in Jharkhand

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Offline classes in schools have been suspended.

  2. Religious processions on Sarhul have been banned in Ranchi.

Covid Restrictions in Chhattisgarh

Restrictions have been stated below:

  1. Total lockdown in 8 districts. Saturday onwards, 3 districts i.e. Rajnandgaon, Bametra and Balod shall be under complete lockdown.

  2. Lockdown has already been imposed in Raipur (since April 9-April 19) and Durg.

  3. Complete lockdown will also been imposed in Jashpur, Koriya and Balodabazar Sunday onwards.

Covid Restrictions in Uttarakhand

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Night curfew has been imposed in Dehradun between 10 pm - 5 am everyday.

  2. Covid negative report shall be presented for visitors from 12 States.

Covid Restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir

Restrictions have been stated below:

  1. Night curfew has been imposed in urban areas of 8 districts (Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, Anantnag and Kupwara) that have seen a spike in Covid-19 cases.

  2. Schools shall be closed till April 18.

  3. Indoor sports and activities shall be suspended temporarily.

Covid Restrictions in Chandigarh

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Night curfew imposed from 10 pm-5am everyday.

  2. Hotels shall operate at 50% capacity.

  3. Restaurants shall shut by 10 pm everyday.

Covid Restrictions in Uttar Pradesh

The Covid-19 number has risen to 7,05,619 on 12th April with over 13 thousand cases with more than 70 deaths, which is the highest single day toll this month. In the wake of this, the following restrictions have been imposed:

  1. Night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am has been imposed till April 17.

Covid Restrictions in Telangana

Restrictions are as follows:

  1. Schools, colleges, universities and hotels shall remain shut.

  2. & lsquo No mask No entry' Rule is to be followed strictly.

Covid Restrictions in Karnataka

According to Karnataka Chief Minister, the State could have a lockdown if necessity arises. The restrictions are stated below:

  1. Night curfew for 10 days(from 10 pm - 5 am), beginning April 10 in several parts of the State (such as Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Kaluburagi, Bidar, Tumkur and Udupi-Manipal)
