March 20, 2020

In order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the citizens of India to observe a day-long self-curfew on Sunday, March 22, 2020. The PM had made this appeal to the citizens on Thursday to test the nation's resolve at social isolation. He further cautioned the citizens against being complacent about the Coronavirus outbreak. PM Modi has also announced setting up of Covid-19 Economic Response Task Force to meet the economic challenges being faced by the spread of Coronavirus. The Task Force will be led by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. While conveying the seriousness of the pandemic, Prime Minister has stated that the first and second world war also did not affect as many countries as have been impacted by the novel Coronavirus. The PM has asked everyone to remain vigilant and to take precautions. He has asked the citizens, “ For the next few weeks please do not venture out without any pressing need. Those who work in government, hospitals, media may not be able to avoid it, but others should.& quot In furtherance to this, he has urged the citizens to observe Janata Curfew on Sunday, March 22 from 7 am to 9 pm. He has stated that the measure would be a “ touchstone” to determine the nation's preparation to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak and would also prepare the country for challenges that may arise in the future. “ There is no cure for this, so we need to remain healthy. We need to avoid crowds and stay home. Social distancing is critical. If you think you can roam around as usual and feel you will not be at risk, this is incorrect you are endangering yourself and your family,” stated the PM. He also assured that there will be no shortage of food, milk, medicines, and other daily essentials and thus urged the public to not panic. He also advised the traders and high-income families to take care of their domestic workforce and not to deduct pays for the days they are unable to render services.
