School owner receives ‘parcel bomb’ in a surprise gift from former student

October 18, 2018

In a strange turn of events, a & lsquo parcel bomb' in a gift box was received by the owner of a private school in Gujrat which was successfully destroyed by the Police. The & lsquo gift box' was couriered to him in school on October 12. The Police are now currently looking for the unidentified sender.

The bomb was made with gelatin sticks and even had a detonator switch, packed in a gift box and sent to Shri Krishna School, run by one Vitthal Dobaria in Upleta town. Upon opening the gift and finding the contents suspicious, he alerted the police. Thereafter, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad destroyed the bomb in a & lsquo controlled blast', as stated by the District Superintendent of Police.

It is suspected that the person who delivered the box was not a courier boy, as he did not follow the usual procedures of courier firms. The sender even wrote on the box that he was a student of the school in previous years and was thus sending a gift to thank Dobaria for his support.

The sender had requested the owner of the school to open the box on October 14. The SP said “ Luckily, the bomb did not go off. The sender could be a novice. But it was clear that Dobaria was the target.”
