Man arrested for assaulting an American woman in Delhi-Mumbai flight
August 14, 2018The Police has arrested a man after a woman from the United States filed a written complaint against him, alleging harassment on a flight from New Delhi to Mumbai which was to take off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on August 12, 2018. The Police said that a fight broke out between the man and the woman which caused a disturbance in the aircraft.
The incident occurred at 10 pm when the passengers were boarding the plane, according to the police. The fight took place when the man, who works in the stock market, kept his bag on a seat inside the plane to which the woman objected, and in no time the argument turned into a physical fight.
The woman filed a written complaint immediately after the physical fight took place and the man was taken off the aircraft and handed over to the Delhi Police.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Indira Gandhi International Airport stated that the man has been charged under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code. The section states that a person who assaults or uses criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to two years along with fine.
