IPL’s ‘sex-for-selection’ scandal busted post sting operation

Mohammed Akram Saifi, Executive Assistant of IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla has resigned after he was suspended by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) following a sting operation where he was found asking for bribe from a Uttar Pradesh cricketer in return for his selection in the state team. A Hindi news channel produced an audio tape where Akram Saifi was found asking for “ cash and kind” favour from Rahul Sharma for his selection in the UP team. According to Rahul, Akram has also provided fake documents certifying age to help players participate in the age group cricket tournaments. Rajeev Shukla is presently a Director of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. He has stated that Akram's resignation has been accepted with immediate effect. BCCI has stated that it will appoint a commissioner as per the rules and regulations of the BCCI to investigate this matter. The commissioner has to submit his findings to the BCCI disciplinary committee within 2 weeks. BCCI has also requested for audio tapes from the channel which will be carefully examined. BCCI has denied any association with Akram. However, it has accepted that his salary was paid from the BCCI's funds. Former Indian Player Mohammad Kaif has also demanded an investigation into this matter.
