Mass suicide or Mass murder? 11 Family members found dead in Delhi
July 02, 2018In a shocking set of events, a family of 11 was found dead in their home in Sant Nagar, New Delhi. It appears to be a mass suicide with ten of the family members found hanging in the hallway of the house. It is suspected that the family committed suicide driven by religious motivations.
The family including two 15-year-old boys were found hanging by the cables and chunnis (scarves) with religious motifs on it. They were blindfolded, with hands tied and cotton buds were stuffed in their ears. The eldest member of the family, a 77 years old female, was found strangled and lying on the bed in another room.
A diary was found in the house which entailed the instructions for “mass salvation” and how hangings should be constructed. These instructions seemed to have been written months ago. It is alleged that the family conducted a “havan” before the mass suicide.
A neighbour informed the police of the incident when he entered their house to see everyone dead on Sunday morning after finding the dairy shop run by the family closed till 7 am. The house was found intact with no signs of struggle or robbery. The only member found alive was the family dog which was found from the terrace.
The bodies were later sent for autopsy which is expected to reveal the exact story behind the death of the family members.
