Fast Track court to hear Sunanda Pushkar murder case

May 25, 2018

The Sunanda Pushkar murder case has seen a new development with the case being transferred to a fast track court. A fast track court in India aims at quick disposal of long pending cases. The victim, Sunanda Pushkar, wife of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was found dead in their suite at Hotel Leela, New Delhi in 2014. After numerous years of investigation, the Police has found lead on her husband, accusing him of abetment of suicide. During the hearing of the petition, the Court had asked the police as to why it had taken so long to investigate the matter and were directed to file a status report. The reason for the transfer of the case is based on Supreme Court guidelines which state that cases involving politicians have to be heard by a special judge so that the trial can be expedited. The case was transferred by Metropolitan Magistrate Dharmendra Singh of the Patiala House Court to Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal.
