  • Nirbhaya Rape Case: Supreme court to hear appeal on April 4

    Nearly 2 years after the Delhi High Court upheld the death sentence, the Honorable Supreme Court will finally hear the plea of the 4 accused in the Nirbhaya Rape Case on April 4 2016.

    The trial court an Delhi High Court had fast tracked their judgement on the case, awarding death penalty to the acussed Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma within months.. The prime accused, Ram Singh, was found dead in his cell in Tihar jail in March 2014, during the proceedings.

    On March 14, 2014, the Supreme Court had given a stay on the judgement. The 4 accused cannot be hanged till the Supreme Court gives it final verdict. The case was listed 4 times in the Supreme Court over the last 21 months , it has not been hard till date.

    Nirbhaya's parent have been sidelined by the legal system, with the Supreme Court informing them that they are "not a party to the case" , which will be dealt "due course".
