Section 144 Crpc. imposed in Noida to prevent protests against the release of movie Padmaavat

January 23, 2018

Just a day after the violent protests took place in various parts of Noida against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie Padmaavat, the administration has imposed section 144 of Crpc in the district which prohibits the assembly of four or more people at one place. The movie is slated to be released on 25 January. The administration also confirmed that section 144 will be in force for the next two months, as a precautionary measure taken to maintain law and order in the district. The decision has been taken after the police failed to control the protest over the release of Padmaavat. The members of Karni Sena began the protest on Sunday at the Great Venice Mall of Greater Noida which later spread to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and toll plaza. Later, the police had filed 40 cases against 800 unidentified miscreants. “ We have arrested 12 people from the spot and detained many others for creating nuisance and rioting. We will scan the CCTV footage and arrest more people. We will take strict action against them.& quot said Suniti, Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar. Following the outrage against the movie's release, the Delhi Police is also maintaining high security at the multiplexes and theatres. Extra police forces are also deployed across the city to control any untoward incident. Starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the film was slated for release on December 1 last year but was postponed as the makers had not got a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), or the censor board, till then. The film is based on the saga of the historic 13th century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi. Protesting against the movie release, the members of Karni Sena group alleged that the movie has distorted the historical facts and as a result, the governments of various states had earlier put a ban on the release of the movie. But the Supreme court had last week, ruled in favour of an All India release of the movie on January 25. The apex court further restrained the states from issuing any such order/notification banning the release of the movie. However, the members of Karni Sena have issued an ultimatum claiming that if the screening of the film is not stopped then nothing can prevent them from demolishing the theaters.
