Max Hospital loses licence over wrongfully declaring a new born dead
December 08, 2017Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain announced on Friday that the licence of Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh has been canceled on the ground of negligence by the doctors of the hospital. The hospital on November 30, declared the newborn twins - a boy and a girl dead but later the baby boy was found alive when the family was taking his body for performing final rites. They noticed some movements and on checking found the baby breathing.
The family then immediately took the boy to the Pitampura nursing center where he was put on ventilation. However, just a few days later the child suffered from a multi-organ dysfunction and died within a week of his treatment there. After the baby’s death, Mr. Kumar (father) went on a protest against the Max Hospital. He refused to take his son’s body until he get justice. He demanded the arrest of the doctors involved in the medical negligence.
A Delhi government panel of Doctors also found the hospital medically negligent as it did not follow the prescribed norms while dealing with the newborns. The doctors did not conduct any ECG tracing before declaring the babies dead. The bodies of the twins were handed over to the parents wrapped in a polythene bag and the doctors also did not provide any written information about the death.
Health Minister Satyendra Jain, within hours of death of the boy, announced that immediate action shall be taken against the offenders on the basis of the report that has to be submitted by the government panel. On December 4, Max Healthcare center also decided to terminate the services of the doctors that were found guilty in the case.
A police complaint was also registered under section 308 IPC, where the doctors were found guilty of the attempt to commit culpable homicide that is punishable with an imprisonment for a term of seven years.
