To fix traffic woes, Delhi High Court recommends air-lifting of Karol Bagh’s 108 ft Hanuman Statue
November 21, 2017On Monday, the Delhi High Court expressed agony over illegal construction in National Capital Region and observed that the local authorities should consider “airlifting” of the 108- foot Hanuman Statue located at Jhandewalan.
A bench comprising of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar while adjudicating a PIL filed by NGO urging to remove unauthorised and encroachments in the Karol Bagh area stated that such statutes should be removed.
While suggesting this recommendation the court pointed out that in the United States the entire skyscraper was shifted as a whole. Similarly, the same can be done in this situation as well and the statue of Hanuman can be lifted to remove illegal construction.
Previously also municipal corporation has been given enough opportunities to take stringent actions illegal construction. In the present matter, the court also pointed out if municipal bodies at even point show that the law is enforced the mindset of the people of National Capital Region can be changed.
On November 15, the court passed a direction to remove encroachments from the area as the legal authorities were seeking a modification with regard to the police station who was to implement this order. While discussing this, the matter was brought before the bench.
The matter is scheduled for next hearing on November 24.
