UP Govt. slammed for failing to file a Comprehensive Policy on Environmental Preservation in Taj
November 16, 2017The Hon’ble Supreme Court on a recent hearing on Wednesday interrogated the Uttar Pradesh Government for failing to provide a comprehensive policy on the issue of pollution in the Taj Trapezium Zone and nearby areas as it ordered on the 17th October.
Recently the UP Tourism Board had started building a multi-level parking in the region to manage severe traffic conditions in the vicinity of Taj, against which the apex court had passed a demolition order on 24th October 2017. The court had criticized the UP government for allowing all sorts of impromptu constructions in and around the TTZ (Taj Trapezium Zone) and wanted to know if the government had a plan to protect the monument from pollution. On 27th October the Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who was appearing on behalf of the UP Tourism Board had claimed that the government had a policy for developing the area without polluting the TTZ and needed time to produce it and managed to get a stay on the demolition order.
However, there has been no stringent policy or action plan produced by the UP Tourism Board or the state before the court to date, even after an aggressive demand by the apex court to protect the monument from the increasing pollution levels. The Supreme Court has finally ordered the state to file the said policy on Wednesday and directed the matter to be listed on Monday i.e. 20th November.
