Advance amount given to landlord for rented property

We had given a advance amount for rented property in Gurgaon, but were unable to move because owners society didn't allowed us. So we were forced to shift to different property post unlock 2.0.Now the landlord his not returning the advance money, nor answering our calls .
What further actions can be taken. Please advice
You can give a notice for recovery of the amount paid. Also i want to know is there any agreement done or any Written letter between you and the landlord. Also what is the mode of payment. Is it cash or account transfer. I can advice you better after understanding the situation and tell you further course of action.
