What are the laws regarding serving of notice period

20-Jul-2023 (In Labour & Service Law)
According to my offer letter, I have 1 month is my notice period. One year back my company provided a letter saying that the notice period is extended to 2 months. I had a call with them and rejected it. Now when I put down my papers they are asking me to serve for 2 months otherwise they will not give the relieving letter. Is there any law regarding the extension of the notice period?

Hi, As per your query, the initial offer letter stated one month of notice period. However subsequently, the company has issued another letter a year back which mentions that the notice period is extended to 2 months. Hence the same will be applicable to you as well as whomsoever received that letter. If there is any further clause to adjust the notice period which is shortfall through adjustment of leaves you have or payment towards foreclosure of notice period, then you may execute the same. Suggest to have a dialogue with the HR and also the chief of the organization/unit and request them to relieve you with all necessary documents. Better to get exited with good note.
