Reimbursement for Interview expense denied due to late filing

12-Sep-2023 (In Labour & Service Law)
Background I was called by a company for an interview at their city and asked to make travel arrangements stating caps on maximum limits for airfares, boarding and lodging. I made the arrangements and informed the company of my travel plans (sharing copies of air tickets) in accordance with their policy. Due to my other engagements and oversight, I missed to submit my re-imbursement claims within 30 days of my interview. A couple of months later, I engaged with the Company and apologised for late submission requesting for processing of claim that amounted to over INR 20,000. The Company denied processing of claim citing reimbursement claim submissions were not submitted within the stated timeline. Question: What are the options available with me to secure my moneys incurred on account of travel/stay for purpose of interview requested by the company? What is the obligation of the Company in both legal and statutory terms?

You have admitted that you were aware of the 30-day deadline to submit reimbursement claims and yet you did not adhere to it. In such cases, legally there is not much relief you can speak. I would advise you to reach out to the HR/ Recruitment officers and try to convince them to process your reimbursement. However as it has already been a few months, it is less likely that they will oblige you - still worth a try.
