Non performance deduction which was only updated verbally to everyone

I was working in a company which is a startup last month they updated everyone verbally that there will be salary deduction for non performance.Which was not written in the offer letter which they gave.
Now they made a deduction of 40% what can i do

Unless and until there is a formal notice about any such deduction, no employer can deduct your salary. It is important to note that the employer is doing so because he doesn't have a valid justification. You need to send a Legal Notice immediately to him for the release of salary.
