Can my company ask me to resign from my post ?

my company wants me to resign. i was working in the company for 4.5 years. as my gratuity period is also going to start. can my company ask me to resign. what should i do?
A company cannot force an employee to resign. In so far as gratuity is concerned, the minimum service period is 5 years. However, if your are terminated forcefully, you can lay a claim on the gratuity also.
