SECTION 228 IPC - Indian Penal Code - Intentional insult or interruption to public servant sitting in judicial proceeding

As per new Indian Criminal law, IPC Section 228 has been replaced with BNS Section 267 with effect from July 1, 2024.
(Upper limit of fine is increased from one thousand to five thousand rupees.)

Whoever intentionally offers any insult, or causes any interruption to any public servant, while such public servant is sitting in any stage of a judicial proceeding, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.



IPC 228 in Simple Words

In simple words, Section 228 of the Indian Penal Code states that if someone intentionally insults or disrupts a public servant while they are involved in any stage of a judicial proceeding, they can be punished with up to six months of simple imprisonment, or fined up to one thousand rupees, or both.
