In India, you generally cannot legally change your caste, as caste is determined by birth and lineage, usually from the father's side. It is considered a fundamental and permanent part of an individual's social identity.

However, in February 2021, the Government of Tamil Nadu issued an order stating that children born to parents of two different castes can obtain a community certificate mentioning the caste of either parent. According to the order, the parents can choose to declare their child's caste based on either the father's or mother's caste.

It's important to note that this order only applies to the state of Tamil Nadu and may not necessarily be applicable in other parts of India.

Inter-caste marriages and adoption are two important social institutions through which secularism would find its fruitful and solid base for an egalitarian social order under the Constitution. Therefore, due recognition should be accorded for social mobility and integration, and accordingly, its recognition must be upheld as valid law. The Supreme Court did not say that a child born to a couple, who married transgressing the barriers of Caste, would take the community of his or her father and not that of his or her mother. On the contrary, the Supreme Court categorically pointed out that the answer to the question would depend upon the circumstances in which the child was brought up and that the same was primarily one of fact.

The facts stated are incomplete. The critical issue in deciding the caste of the children born into inter-caste marriage is how the child was brought up. It is the general presumption that the child takes the caste of the father. In exceptional cases where the child was brought up in the community of the mother, the child belongs to the mother's caste. Anyhow, it is a question of fact; there is no question of change of caste.

The cast cannot be changed once applied. There is no provision for changing the Caste. The only way that people adopt is to change their religion from HINDU and after some time return to Hinduism again and accept a caste of your choice at that time...
