Freind canceled the engagement 2 weeks prior girl asking compensation

my friend cancelled his marriage before 2 weeks of marriage, no engagement was done and no function happened. can u tell me what can be the consequences and what genuine amount he would have to pay ? the girl side is saying he needs to pay even for the clothes they bought for marriage . no money was exchanged. what will be the fees of lawyers also for such a case ?
Lawyer fee is different from lawyer to lawyer. As far as compensation is concerned it has to be decided mutually.
