In India, the process of changing a child's name involves the following steps:

  1. Affidavit: The first step is to prepare an affidavit stating the reasons for changing the child's name. The affidavit should also include the new name that you wish to give to your child. The affidavit must be signed by the child's parents and notarized by a Notary Public.

  2. Newspaper publication: Once the affidavit is prepared and notarized, a notice must be published in at least two newspapers, one in the local language and the other in English. The notice should mention the old name, the new name, and the reason for the name change. The notice should be published in newspapers with wide circulation.

  3. Gazette notification: After the notice has been published in the newspapers, an application must be made to the Department of Publication of the Government of India to publish the name change in the Official Gazette of India. The application must be made in the prescribed format and must be accompanied by the affidavit, the newspaper clippings, and the prescribed fee.

  4. Birth certificate: Once the name change has been published in the Official Gazette, a copy of the gazette notification must be submitted to the Registrar of Births and Deaths in the area where the child was born. The Registrar will then make the necessary changes in the child's birth certificate.

  5. Inform the school: Once the legal document is obtained, inform the school authorities of the name change and provide them with a copy of the legal document.

It is important to note that the process of changing the name in school records may vary from school to school. Therefore, it is advisable to check with the school authorities for their specific procedures and requirements
