Have a long surname wants to do correction in future child's document

13-Nov-2023 (In Documentation Law)
Hello all, PROBLEM: I have very long surname. I had finished my studies and doing job right now. I have all the documents with this surname only. i.e.marksheets, aadhar card, pan card, bank account, home loan and property document. It is tedious to change surname at this age and it brings more complications. My age is 27 and i do not have child now. But, i am planning for it. So, How can i get my future child's surname shorter ? Is it possible at time of applying birth certificate ? or do i need to change it later using affidavit ? I guess it will not bring any problems to him/her in inheriting my property in future. Kindly advise. - Thanks & Regards, Jaydeep

Hi,

At the time of registering your Child's birth with government organization like corporation, panchayat etc, use your kids name as you wish. Example like your name is RAMESH and your surname is SUNDARPILLAIRAJMUNDRAKRISHNANFROMINDIA then you can fill up the details like RAMESH

Your kid can have a name like ABC RAMESH.

Last name / surname is not mandatory anywhere in india.

Another option is you can change your name where you can adopt a new surname and get it entered in gazette and get it published it news paper and get one ID with that name and submit that as ID proof for all documents of your kids and that will solve the issue.
