Can the surname of a person be changed legally

Hi, I am 25 adult (male) wanted to change my last name, due to some personal reasons wanted to know is this is possible? And if yes so would I would have right to claim my dad property in future as I have 2elder brother and 3Elder sister. Please suggest

Dear Querist, You can legally change your name and surname by publishing the same in Gazette of India. You can only change your name but your identity i.e. son of Mr. X do not change. which means you have full right of inheritance on your father's property and no one take away from you.
