Yes go ahead and file a report with nearby police station. Please narrate the whole incident accurately with police officer. If your company has cctv camera and footage recordings that can be very helpful.

Hi, This is something new that corporate policy does not allow to file a FIR, if any of the employee lost the property in the office which was entitled on their own. There is no limitation period for filing an FIR for the lost item. Still you can approach CYBER crime police station and file a FIR ( mention the properties of the laptop on the complaint like., MAC address, OS version number,RAM,HD details,software details ... etc., ) . I think, the reason behind company is asking you to file a FIR to protect the software installed on the laptop against copyright infringement. You may approach me for registering a FIR.
