Support group liability - attempt to suicide

09-Oct-2023 (In Criminal Law)
Sirs, For a mental health support group (informal, on whatsapp), what would be the liability, if a member commits suicide in the following scenarios: 1. The member tells another member privately about his desire to commit suicide (not on the group) 2. The member announces it on the group. 3. The member announces it on the group and quits the group. Assume that the support group has not in anyway instigated the suicide. We are a small group of people trying to help people with mental health issues, but we don't want to be on the wrong side of law. We need to frame some guidelines around this. And we do not have the funds to hire legal support for this. Requesting your support. Regards

You can definitely frame guidelines regarding your group. As being an Admin, it is your responsibility that you should set Disclaimer, come up with terms and conditions for the group, frame liability policy, following due procedure in accordance with IT ACT, 2000 & IT Rules, 2011.
