What to do if there is mental and physical abuse before marriage

Is there any provision legally for proceedings regarding pre marital verbal, mental and emotional abuse? Or does it fall outside of law since the couple is not legally husband and wife?
Even if you are not married you can still recourse to the provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Verbal, physical or mental abuse failing under different offences as mentioned in Indian Penal code will make the accused liable to be tried in a criminal proceedings. So even if you are not married, you can press criminal charges.
