Procedure for the son to claim in mother's property.

I am aware that son will not be able to claim property held by father's property. Question is what if the property is in Mother's name ? Can son claim the property if its in Mother's name rather than father's name ? Religi
A son can claim father's as well as mother's property if they die intestate as the son would be a class 1 legal heir under the Hindu Succession Act. However , if they make a will before dying their property would be transferred as per their wish as mentioned in the will.
