To inquire about appointing a guardian for daughter

I am a single mother living seperately, not yet legally divorced. i have a minor daughter, i want to make my friend as her legal gaurdian. I do have health issues, in case anything happens to me also, i want my friend to take my child under their gaurdianship. what is the procedure for the same? Is it possible when the biological father is alive?
Father is legal guardian If father is alive he will be the guardian but according to welfare it woul be considered
