Is there any time limit for filing custody of child?

Mcd finished in November, but my lawyer is still not filing for custody of daughter who will b 5 yrs in July. Wife staying with married person. Is there any timeframe for filing of custody case by me (father)? How much time it will take for custody case if i file ?
You are required to file custody case under Guardianship ward Act read with Hindu minority act at AP matrimonial court where the child is residing.
You can also file an application under section 12 of the Act for seeking temporary custody of your child
