Money lent to a friend and issues in recovering it

I had lent money to my friend for personal emergency, in turn he is giving monthly interest. He is paying the interest till last month through bank transfer. I had cheque for the amount he borrowed from me. Now he is refusing to pay me and challenging me to recover the due from him. I am clueless now, what are the ways to get back my money?
if you have a cheque then date should be at current date and you should Bounce the cheque and within 30 days you should send a notice and if the notice is received by your friend then within 30 days you should file a case at appropriate Court for recovery of money
