An application would be possible if you have at least the FD receipt and/or its number to obtain a duplicate. Besides, are you a nominee to the FD or are you the sole legal heir in case he is no more? Do share more details.

You should know the details of FD you are seeking to find with the bank. Otherwise it will be difficult for you to convince the bank.

As per sec 3 of Right to Information 2005 Act provides the right to ask the query from the Bank.
As per your case you can ask in written from the bank about the FD of your grandfather on the specimen prescribed by bank. Every bank have CERTIFIED PUBLIC OFFICER who deals these casea. These officer has liability to reply with 30 days of tje application by customer.
You have to pay a fees along with all the information related to the account number of your grand father, appropirate time to create the Fixed Deposit. It would become the valid proof for you and you can induce the Bankers to resove your problems.
