Have you signed any contract that says you are barred from taking up any kind of commercial activity?
An employer can bar you from taking up a competitive commercial activity. But he cannot bar you from taking up an unrelated commercial activity.
If you are starting a startup, you will soon have to register it as a company and ask for funding. If you do this, the employer is going to know about it. But unless and until you have signed a contract barring your activities, the employer cannot fire you only on the basis on starting up a non-allied, non-competing business.
