Right to appear for exam. can principal deny ICSE admission ticket

05-Oct-2023 (In R.T.I Law)

Hello, My child is studying in ICSE school class X. His board exam is in Mar 2016. School principal says, she will not allow him to appear for board exam because his class test and unit test performance is not good. According to ICSE school rules, principal may not give hall ticket for exam only when student's attendance is below 75% or parents request school to withdraw the name from the exam. Class test or unit test marks are not considered in ICSE board exam. My child is nervous on principal's treatment. I would like to know if principal has right to deny hall ticket.

The ICSE Rules do not allow a Principle to detain a student if the student has the requisite attendance. You could have a look at the rules on the ICSE website.

Further, you may also file an RTI Application with the ICSE department to clarify the same and also to put the above facts on record.
