What are my rights on ancestral property

my father's mother died in 1996,his maternal grandfather had 3daughters and one son ,my grand mother's younger sister and brother were also died,her elder sister only alive.My query is that there is property belongs to my father's grandfather which is in the possession of his uncle's wife.Is there any share in property to my father which is ancestral property of his maternal grandfather.

Your father's mother if alive would have got a share of this property .
your father would have got a share of this property from his mother.
Also need to see when your grand mother(father's mother) got married. the reason is in prior to Hindu marriage act(1956) woman did not get any share in property post their marriage.
so need to see when your father's mother got married for us to give you a correct legal advise.

The Hindu succession act of 1956 gives rights to the legal heir's (no gender bias), however in this case since your grandmother who actually holds the direct share is no more - this could be quite a task, however not a mere impossible case

Do provide all the family background and existing legal heir details so as to analyse how much will be the legally existing share for your father in the same
