If the said property is bought by you with your own earned money, you are the sole owner of the property and no one else can claim their rights on that property. And the property given to your wife by her mother, if it is transferred by a sale deed then, she is the sole owner of that property. Thus, your son can not claim his share as he has no legal right to do so.

one can deal with his self acquired property in any manner he likes. If a person dies intestate without writing a WILL then his property will be divided in equal shares among his wife, sons, daughters etc. During his or her life time a person can bequeath his self acquired property to any one through a WILL. So in your case your son cannot demand his share in the property.
