18-Jun-2023 (In Property Law)
Iam living in my current home from the past 15 years. But my home is still registered in the name of old owner. I have sale agreements and the house is in my mother's name. Please tell me how much does it costs to register my property. Is there is any penalty of not registering the house for a long period of time. Also iam not in contact with the seller, so does his presence is necessary to get house registered. Can he still claim the house in his name.

The questions to all the answers is that seller can claim the possession since the property is not registered yet for a long period of time. After purchasing any property you shall the right to get the property registered. The cost of registration of property depends upon the type of property purchased. It is compulsory for everyone to get the property registered in his own name as soon as the seller sells the property by way of sale deed

There is no limitation period prescribed for the registration of a property under the law. This means that you are free to register your property even today. As for the cost of such registration, the same shall be governed by the Rules under the Registration Act which vary from state to state. Hence, the cost of registration will depend on the location of your property and the current market value of the same. The Registrar has the discretion to request the presence of any witnesses, which may include the seller, if he so deems fit. In the event that you have a registered sale agreement, or an affidavit from the seller confirming such sale, the possibility of such requirement is reduced. In the event you possess a valid sale agreement, the seller, by law, should not be able to claim the property in his name.
