Mother in law wants to divide property of her husband keys with me

My mom in law is a widow & wants to divide her husbands self acquired property equally among her 1 son, 2 daughters & herself equally & has kept the keys of the dividable property with me. Her son threatens to kill me if I did not hand over the keys to him. What can I do to safeguard myself & my family.
Go to court and asked for police protection. Second asked your mother in law that all of use we go to court and divide the share according to law. if you have something you can take happily. I will not of object.
