In order to transfer the khata from your late father, an affidavit from all the legal heirs to the revenue officer is sufficient. The khata can be made in the name of one of the successors by consent of others. However, all the legal heirs will be co-owners and the Khata is in the name of one of the heirs only for administrative convenience. In my opinion, succession certificate is not necessary (for Karnataka)
