Can we get any share in the property if a nominee has been chosen?

my mother in law who was working in SBI died a while back. she had land as well as some assets in her name. we want to know that how will the property be divided among the 5 sisters if there is no will or nominee been executed by my mother in law. in case my mother in law has chosen a Nominee then how can we get out share.
