After father's death how can obtain documents belonging to father

My wife (Hindu Bengali)do not know the account number of various account maintained with different banks, post office etc can she inform the matter to banks and post office for stop transaction in the name of his father from immediate effect citing her father's death and is the bank oblige to accept her application? How or in which way she is able to know account number and got duplicate passbook, deposit certificate and others, deed from bank and post office and other ?
