My brother died in an accident filed for claim but no update yet

My brother met with an accident in 2014 september and died at the spot when he was travelling to banglore from hyderabad in private bus travels. We have approached a lawyer last 2years back and given all the documents, but still we didnt get update from court. I just want to know the process and generally how much time it takes and can we relay on the lawyer completely? Do we have any other option to cross check
has the lawyer given you any kind of case details in the concerned matter. Has the case been filed where the case has been filed. Case number etc. 2 years is a long time and by this time you should have been given compensation or some sort of relief. you need to ask your lawyer these questions.
